Elk Glen Lake, San Francisco Overview

San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park is home to a ton of lakes and reservoirs. One of the least known, though quiet, is Elk Glen Lake, which is located on the north side of Martin Luther King Drive, west of the intersection with 25th Avenue.

The picturesque lake, covered with evergreen trees, eucalyptus, plum and cherry trees, invites recluses and hermits and gains accolades for its picnic area, which includes picnic tables and barbeque grills. The picnic area also welcomes picnickers with beer and wine and allows for lawn games. The tranquil and lush green environment around the lake provides bird-viewing as it is home to water-birds including Lincoln Sparrows, Ring-neck, Ruddies, American Wigeons, Mallards, Buffleheads, and Belted Kingfishers.
