Fort Funston Beach, San Francisco Overview

Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Lake Merced , situated on San Franciscos coast is Fort Funston Beach. The beach is famous for hang gliding and hikes towards the south which get more and more remote with every step. The access to the beach is free of cost with ample parking spaces all over.

The beach is a known dog paradise but we request you to please pick up any waste. Also dogs are only allowed on a leash. Hiking towards the north direction , the trail takes you to another beach and one can visit the sunset trail as well on the way back. Look out for some jaw dropping graffiti and sand dollars on this route. We recommend going on a unique fossil hunt too. The parking lot houses a wooden platform which gives breathtaking views of the gliders, beach and the ocean. A lot of cyclists take bring down their bikes to the beach too! Just behind the beach is a military installation too, called Battery Davis and is free to explore.
