China Beach, San Francisco Overview

Since the area was used as a campsite by Chinese fisherman in the Gold Rush times, the beach has been named after them. Facing north, with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, China Beach is a small quaint beach located in the Sea Cliff neighbourhood. The large daunting mansions of the Sea Cliff area look onto the beach and ocean.

The beach is usually foggy during the summers. People consider this as the only safe beach to swim in San Francisco, so do carry your trunks and enjoy your trip. However there are warnings about high current in the area, so we suggest you don’t wander too deep into the water and stick to shallow areas. During low tide visitors enjoy exploring and finding starfish and mussels clinging onto the rocky surfaces. Hang around till a little after sunset to see the gleaming bridge lights come on and click a few pictures with your family! There are restrooms available on the beach , however pets, alcohol and plastic utensils are not allowed on the beach.
