Ranjit Vilas Palace, Rajkot Overview

Ranjit Vilas Palace is located in Rajkot, Gujarat, and was built by Maharaja of Wankaner H.H. Amarsinhji. It covers an area of 225 acres. There are no visitors allowed inside the palace except for under special circumstances granted that they have permission from the present descendant of the Jhala dynasty - High Royal Highness Dr. Digvijay Sinh Zala. The palace is decorated with a fusion of historic architectural styles borrowed from the Mughal, Dutch, Gothic and Victorian architecture. However, the maintenance of the palace has been the centre of scrutiny by many of its visitors.

History and Architecture

The construction of Ranjit Vilas palace was completed in the 1940s. Maharaja of Wankaner H.H. Amarsinhji built this place to keep a watch on the town.

Ranjit Vilas Palace is spread over an area of 225 acres. The town is carved with some of the most significant facets of historical architectural style. It is a multi-cultural manifestation of designs influenced by the Mughal, Dutch, Gothic and Victorian layouts.

There are latticed windows decorating the walls, massive hallways and high-ceiling walls occasionally decorated with glass. There is a watchtower built on the hill too. The in-built guest house of the palace is called Chandra Bhavan.

In 2001, the Bhuj earthquake in Gujarat construed parts of the palace in shambles.

Collections

Ranjit Vilas Palace has a collection of numerous weapons belonging to the arsenal of the Jhala dynasty. There are intricately engineered daggers and swords that pertain the richness of royalties.

Along with paintings, there are vintage cars decorating spaces entitled to them.
