Rashtriya Shala, Rajkot Overview

Situated on the Dr Yagnik Rd in Rajkot, Rashtriya Shala is an institute that is believed to have been set up by the Father of Our Nation - Mahatma Gandhi. Sprawling over a vast 66 acres of land area, the institute was set up in 1921, and the land for the same was donated by the then leader of Rajkot Shri Lakhajiraj. Besides documenting the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi himself, the centre is closely related to the Non Cooperation Movement as here you can find several data, artefacts and segments relating to the same and also about India’s fight for independence.

Currently, the centre is largely a school that caters to students to impart educational and vocational training like manual oil pressing, ikat, khadi, cotton, and patola weaving etc. On an average, the school is attended by approx. 700 students that are taught in two shifts. Besides everything, Rashtriya Shala is an important tourist attraction in town and is visited by several tourists frequently.
