Town Hall, Raipur Overview

History of Town Hall

The Town hall was first known as Victoria Jubilee and was inaugurated in 1887. The stones used to construct the structure had come from the Raipur fort. The British were to use the construction as an administration office for their head officers. The structure, today, stands as a witness of the struggle of independence carried out against the British rule. A list of dynasties including laws of various kings and emperors are written on this building.

Construction of Town Hall

The Town Hall is a structure which is constructed across a wide area and stands on several pillars. It is painted in red and white. Its construction started with the direction of Deputy Commissioner Colonel Brice Thomas and took three years to build. The structure comprises of modern manufactured materials since it was renovated recently. It also includes of the bricks used from the Raipur Fort.

The Town Hall is located in the heart of Raipur near Shastri Chowk. It can be accessed very easily by private vehicles like cars and two-wheelers. One can also reach there through public transport like buses, rickshaws and cabs. The closest railway station is the Raipur Junction Railway Station, located 10 to 15 minutes away.
