Mulher Trek, Nashik Overview

Mulher, also known as Mayurgad, is a hill fort in Maharashtra. One of the many forts in Nasik, it is at an elevation of 4200 feet from the ground.

The fort has a number of water cisterns and a temple, along with a water tank which contains crystal-clear water beneath a layer of fluorescent algae. The Ganesha temple on the lower part of the fort is ornately decorated. There is a temple dedicated to Shiva, Ram, Laxman among others. This lower part also houses the remnants of an erstwhile palace, adjacent to the Ram-Laxman temple. Most of the fortifications remain, but the three large entrances have crumbled down. The fort is famous for its nine water tanks within the fortifications. The top of the fort presents a clear view of Tungi an Mangi hills to the north and Dhodap and Saptashringi to the East, among others.

Trek Routes

There are two ways to reach the fort. Both of these routes begin from the base village of Mulher. After walking for around 25 minutes, a house and a banyan tree become visible. Move ahead of the tree to reach Dhangadwadi, after a brisk walk. After a further walk of about 45 minutes of the place, two routes emerge. The route that goes straight is the simpler one. This trail leads us to a Ganesha temple on the lower part of the fort in about 20 minutes. Take a right from the lake beside the temple to reach a flight of broken steps. These set of stairs will lead us to the fort, eventually. The second route is a bit longer. Three crumbling entrance doors are spotted while walking along this route. After a while, there will be a diversion. Take the one on the right, and it will guide to the top of the fort.
