The southern tip of Okinawa is where the 1945 battle ended, and this clifftop park in Itoman is built over that ground. The Cornerstone of Peace carries the names of everyone who died on both sides, civilians included, cut into black granite. The prefectural museum here is 300 yen, and the Himeyuri Monument remembering the schoolgirls conscripted as nurses sits four kilometres away and is normally seen on the same trip. Allow half a day.
