Tokugawa Art Museum, Nagoya Overview
The Owari Tokugawa family's own collection, held on the grounds of their former residence: armour, swords, tea utensils, Noh masks and nine National Treasures. Its most famous holding, the Genji Monogatari picture scrolls, is also the one most visitors miss, since the originals come out for about two weeks each November only. Closed Mondays, and admission rises during special exhibitions.
Tokugawa was the ruling family during the Edo period and Nagoya was the center-point of the Owari branch of the family. This private art museum is a tribute to the Owari branch and houses relics, preserves and exhibits from the same. History buffs shouls visit this museum definitely.
