Best Time To Visit Mombasa

May is the wettest month of the year and April is not far behind. Together they carry the long rains, and this is the one window to avoid outright.

Mid-April to the end of May is the weak spot. Rain sits over whole days rather than clearing, and it is the only stretch when a Mombasa beach holiday is a real gamble.

Rain collapses between May and June, falling by well over half in a single month. June is a dry-season month, not a rainy one.

It is often still priced as shoulder. That gap between the weather and the price makes June one of the best-value months of the year on this coast.

July and August are the coolest months of the year, running four to five degrees below the January to March peak by day.

At eighty per cent humidity, that difference decides the trip. These are the most comfortable beach months and they cost less than the high season.

September is dry and warming up again, and it is one of the best all-round months of the year here.

October brings the first of the short rains, which are typically afternoon showers at well under half of May's volume rather than washed-out days.

November and December carry the short rains, and these behave nothing like the long ones. Expect afternoon showers rather than lost days.

December dries out towards the end as prices climb into the Christmas peak, so early December is the better half of the month.

Mombasa runs at about eighty per cent humidity all year, so the temperature you feel is not the one on the forecast. January to March reaches about thirty-three degrees; July and August sit nearer twenty-eight.

That makes the cool season the comfortable one. Choosing on comfort and price rather than high-season habit, June to September beats January to March. Zanzibar to the south has the same seasonal shape, though February is drier here than any month there.
