Located at the height of 1,775 metres above the sea level near the village of Tota Rani in the Kangra district of Mcleodganj in Himachal Pradesh, the Dal Lake is a small yet picturesque lake. With its name taken from the famous and breathtaking Dal Lake of Srinagar, the lake is surrounded by rugged mountains and towering deodar trees and is a marvellous place to be at. Quaint and calm, the lake has greenish water which is the dwelling place of different kinds of fishes that live here. According to many famous legends and myths, these fishes are never caught or eaten because of some malediction that the lake is believed to be cursed with. Ironically enough, at the same time, the lake is considered to be a sacred spot by many people as there is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva that is located on the banks of the lake.
A grand fair is also organised at the banks of the Dal Lake. This gala event, which takes place in the month of September, is celebrated to mark the presence of Lord Shiva and is attended by a large number of people of the Gaddi Tribe. The Dal Lake is also a perfect place to stop over and relax if you are trekking up to Naddi, which is also known as the Sunset Point. Make sure that you carry your camera to capture the amazing memories that you make here! The lake, with its lush greenery and blooming trees, is a perfect spot to laze around with loved ones and enjoy a carefree day in the lap of nature. This is why the Dal Lake is counted as one of the major and most beautiful tourist destinations that Mcleodganj houses and is a must visit on your next trip there.
