Duke’s Nose is a popular landmark located about 7 kilometres from the quaint town of Lonavala which is a famous Hill Station in the district of Pune. The name Duke's Nose was derived from the Duke of Wellington, whose nose resembled the shape of the cliff. Locals call it Naagphani or the Cobra's Hood, again going by the shape of the cliff. The region is hugely famous for hiking and its picturesque location. Tourists often visit the landmark to get a panoramic view of the beautiful Sahyadri Ranges, the splendid valleys and the dense forests that cover the Sahyadris. The landmark often serves as an ideal picnic spot for tourists exploring Lonavala.
Duke's Nose is also famous for trekking and rock climbing due to the topographical features of the spot that consists of long trails through the forests leading to the steep rocky outcrops of the spot. Tourists can also get a good view of the Duke's Nose from the Sunset Point in Khandala and then proceed towards Lonavala to reach the cliff. People travelling from Mumbai to Pune or vice versa often take a pit stop here to get a mesmerizing view of the valley. The ones visiting during monsoons can also find several waterfalls gushing down the Sahyadri ranges. Whether you want to reach the spot and only absorb the serene natural surroundings or you want to jump in and walk your way up to the cliff, Duke's nose must be included on your list.
