Lilabari is a very popular destination in Assam since it is an urban centre in the midst of incomparable natural beauty. Nowhere in the North East can one find such accessible spots like the Namdapha National Park which is located on the on the banks of river Brahmaputra in the district of Changlang. This national park is known for its abundant vegetation and variety of wildlife like leopards, elephants, deer, gaur and the Himalayan black bear.

Very close to Lilabari are two famous lakes, Ganga Lake and Sela lake that are very famous picnic spots with locals and tourists alike. They are located within driving distance of Lilabari and offer fantastic views of the mountains and greenery around the lake. Lilabari is also the starting point for some treks ranging from easy trails into the alpine forests to challenging climbs in the Purvanchal Range of Himalayas.

Food in Lilabari is greatly influenced not only by Assam but by Arunachal pradesh as well. People here usually eat rice, fish, meat and green leafy vegetables known as 'Laax'. Some of the most loved Assamese cuisines are Khar, made by filtering water through the ashes of Banana trees, Tenga which is a light and sour fish dish, Poitabhat made by soaking cooked rice overnight and then garnished with onion and spices. Talking about drinks, Assam is well known for its tea, known as "saah" and rice is the main ingredient for beer here but you can taste different alcohol beverages belonging to different tribes as well.

Day 1: Arrive in Lilabari by road or air and take the day to explore the city, the markets, the food and the surrounding natural spots like hills that are located very close to the city. The next day, leave early and travel to the Tawang or Bomdila monastery to find the peace inside you. These monasteries are also located in very scenic places, so after exploring the magnificent architecture of the monastery, you can stroll to the nearby hills, meadows and lakes for a small picnic. There are many eating options close to these monasteries since they are popular tourist spots.

Day 2: Leave for a safari in the Namdapha National Park where you can see the rich, dense vegetation of the North Eastern Mountains and get a chance to see the leopard, black bear or elephant in its natural habitat. This national park is also very rich in bird life and is a photographer's paradise.

  What's Great?

Very well connected city of Assam. Gateway to Monasteries of the North East. Pleasant temperature during most of the year.

  What's not so Great?

There is no railway station in Lilabari but it is well connected by air to Guwahati and Delhi. 

For Whom

Lilabari is the best city to stay in if you want to explore Assam. It is cheaper than the large cities like Guwahati and Dispur and is equally well connected to famous tourist spots like Tawang and Bomdila.
