Gauri Shankar Temple, Kullu Overview
Situated below the Naggar Castle, Gauri Shankar Temple in Naggar Village, Kullu is dedicated to Lord Shiva and dates back to the 12th century AD. Featuring the Shikhara-style architecture, the temple resembles mountain peaks due to its dome-shaped top and square-shaped bottom and has a nine-storey Shikhara.
Placed within the temple, on Nandi and under a silver canopy are the idols of Shankar and Gauri holding Ganesh and Kartik. There is also a Shiva lingam inside. The ASI-protected stone temple attracts large crowds owing to its intricate carvings of Lord Ganesha, dancing statues and people playing musical instruments in the garbhagriha, as well as the gold jewellery adorning the silver canopy.
