Established in the early 21st century, Dechen Choekhor Mahavira Monastery in Sarabai Village is considered to be the holiest Buddhist spot in the state of Himachal Pradesh owing to its association with the Drukpa Kargyu Lineage. A structure representative of Indo-Tibetan art, the colourful monastery is known for its serene and positive vibes and overlooks the breathtaking Beas Valley.
Visiting the 31-feet statue of Buddha and 21-feet statue of Padmasambhavna inside, admiring the structure’s intricate craftsmanship and watching the monks perform their daily rituals are some of the most common activities for visitors to engage in. Walking slightly uphill will provide an excellent view of the magnificent Bijli Mahadev Temple.
