Nelson Mandela Bridge, Johannesburg Overview
Nelson Mandela Bridge is the largest cable-stayed bridge in South Africa. Spanning almost 300 m, it connects Braamfontein and Newtown. It is a major landmark in Johannesburg and is popular for night drives. The buildings surrounding the bridge are decorated with beautiful artwork and murals.
Visit the M1 Highway for a stunning view of the bridge, especially at night when the entirety of it is illuminated. The bridge has pedestrian walkways on either side and a bicycle path. The pedestrian walkway has the added benefit of allowing you to stop atop the bridge for a beautiful photograph.
