Chand Pol, Jaipur Overview

Located in the heart of the old and walled city of Jaipur, Chandpole Bazaar is one of the city’s most beloved marketplaces. Creativity and diversity come together in this bazaar to offer the visitors a vast array of things to pick and choose from. Historically, Chandpole is one of the first built markets of the Pink City and is almost three centuries old! No wonder then, that the market has been constructed in the traditional manner - with pink walls along its borders. In fact, there is a beautiful, towering gateway named after the market itself, called Chandpole Gate, that guards one end of the bazaar area, while at the other end there is the Choti Chaupad. Spread over an area of 1 km, the market has more than 350 unique stores selling various kinds of artefacts, clothes, jewellery, and spices.

Chandpole Market is historically famous for amazing and intricate marble sculptures. This is a speciality art form of Rajasthan, and decor items of different sizes and designs are sold in a wide range of prices all-over the market. Other than that, the bazaar is also a hub for doing your last minute souvenir shopping, as well as purchasing some essentials for your further trip.

History of the market

Not much recorded history is available about this famous market. However, the foundation of Chandpole Bazar is said to have been laid in around 1727 AD - that is how old the market is. But despite of its old age, it still upholds the signs of true Rajasthani style in its architecture - the perfect symmetry in which the shops are arranged, the well-roofed balconies on both sides for protection from the sun, and obviously, the trademark shade of Jaipur - vibrant pink.
Needless to say, Chandpole Market used to be a major point for trade and commerce during the Rajput era. Even now, it is one of the most important hotspots for local shopping in the capital of Rajasthan, for locals and tourists alike.

What to buy?

The major attraction of Chandpole Bazar is the street called Khazanewalon ka Rasta, where you can bargain and buy some of the best marble sculptures you will ever lay our eyes on. Marble sculpting is very much indigenous to this part of the country, and you must try to get your hands on a traditional piece - be it small decorative items for your shelves and racks, or bigger statues for your floor decor.

Other things to buy here are traditional Indian garments like sarees, salwar suits and kurtas, authentic dry fruits, timber and wooden handicrafts, embroidery and mirror work artefacts, lac, glass and metal ornaments and Indian snacks and sweets in plenty.

How To Reach Chandpole

The nearest accessible public transport systems are metro, bus and auto. The Chandpole Metro Station and Choti Chaupad Metro Station are both only few steps away from the two gates of the market respectively.
Sindhi Camp Bus Stand and Choti Chaupad Bus Stand are also within 1-1.5 kilometres. Jaipur Railway Station is within 2 kilometres from the market. In case accessing public transport is a hassle for you, taking a cab is always an option in a city like Jaipur.
