Museum of Great Palace Mosaics, Istanbul Overview

Museum of Great Palace Mosaics, also known as Istanbul Mosaic Museum, is an exquisite mosaics museum located in the heart of Sultanahmet Square at Arasta Bazaar. The mosaics displayed here date from 450-550 AD and depict everyday life, nature and mythology.

Great Palace Mosaic Museum houses some of the last remains of the Grand Palace of the Eastern Roman Emperor that were excavated in the early 1900s. The museum has been a unit of the Hagia Sophia Museum since 1979 and features one of the very few elements of the Byzantine period to survive. Visitors can explore the history of the mosaic floor on the informative panels inside the museum.
