Malankara Dam, Idukki Overview

A gravity dam built across the Thodupuzha River, the Malankara dam supports the irrigation of the region and has been constructed to use the tailwater coming from the Moolamattom powerhouse. Situated near Thodupuzha-Moolamattom Road, the reservoir Dam is a very famous tourist spot. The dam remains open to the tourists throughout the year and is a perfect place for fishing and boating.

There is a park covering 15-acre land situated near the reservoir which is under construction. There is an artificial lake that has been created by the Malankara Dam across the waters from the tail-gate of the Moolamattom Power House. Since the dam remains unexplored by many, it has managed to retain its natural beauty. So, if you are planning a getaway to somewhere quiet and secluded, add this place to your list of must-visit places in Idukki.

The nearest bus stand from Malankara Dam is Muttom, and the nearest bus stop is the Malankara Estate- Sankarapilly. The dam is situated near Thodupuzha which is easily accessible via KSRTC Bus Station that is 20 km away. Also, since the dam lies on the eastern side of Ernakulam, one can reach there by hiring a car, bus or drive their own vehicle from Ernakulam.
