Painavu, Idukki Overview

Located just about 10 km from the centre of Idukki, Painavu is a shopper's paradise. A prominent stopover to Idukki and Cheruthoni Dam, this place is famous for its local handicrafts, silk and beautiful local clothes.

Besides, situated within the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, this little nature-bracketed site is also a wonderful trekking zone. With expanses of lush plantations, Painavu is also a great place to spot elephants during the winters and the monsoons.

However, the best time to visit this region is from September to May, when the rainy season has receded. It is also one of the most sought after weekend getaways from Kochi and Munnar.
