Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati Overview
Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, also known as Sarusajai Stadium, is on the southern edge of Guwahati in Lokhra and was inaugurated in 2007. The stadium originally had a capacity of 30,000 seats; ahead of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, bucket seats were installed, reducing capacity to 28,500.
The magnanimous stadium recorded the highest number of spectators in north- east when 32844 people came to watch the ISL match between the local club Northeast United and the visiting Chennaiyin on 20 October, 2016. The record stayed put until it was broken by Khuman Lampak Main Stadium of Imphal, Manipur with 35,285 spectators on 5thh of January, 2018. The stadium is also used for athletics besides football.

History of Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium
In 2011, a friendly match was conducted between Malaysia and India. In 2014, Northeast United FC was formed in the Indian Super League and the field became a regular practice ground for the team. The stadium also hoisted 33rd National Games of India in 2007, South Asian Games in 2016 and Assam Global Investors' Summit in February 2018. Also, Aizawl FC uses it as their home ground.
