Katara Cultural Village, Doha Overview

Katara Cultural Village is a maze of cobblestone pathways and alleys reminiscent of a very traditional souq. It houses some of the best artworks in the country as well as a community of creative people. A visit here can really rejuvenate your artistic senses. The art forms represented here are extraordinary as most of Qatar’s artistic talents are concentrated here with headquarters for Qatar Fine Arts Society, Visual Arts Centre, Qatar Photographic Society, and the Music Academy all in one place.

Katara also has an opera house which is the home of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, a drama theatre, and an open amphitheater that can seat about 5000 people. Browse through the many handicraft and book stalls to get souvenirs and paraphernalia. There is also a 1.5 km purpose-built beach inside the village for some watersports and beach sports.

Landmarks

Amphitheater
Considered to be the Gem of the village, the architecture is just exquisite combining Greek and Islamic features. The 3275 sq ft. Amphitheater hosts some amazing world-class events inviting famous guests which include actors, opera singers and more from all over the world. With a seating capacity of more than 5000 people, the theater also hosts events like open air film viewing and concerts.

The Golden Masjid
Adorned with small pieces of Gold chips, it is a marvel of Ottoman architecture.

The Opera House
Home to the Philharmonic Orchestra of Qatar and one of its kind in the whole of Qatar, the Opera House is a marvel of modern architecture that has influences from Islamic architectural designs and can seat about 550 people. The Opera House has now become a cultural hub in Qatar so much so that people from all over come to experience the art of the opera and much more.

The Masjid of Katara
Katara Masjid is considered to be one of the most beautiful mosques in Qatar designed by the world-renowned Turkish architect Zainab Fadil Oglu.  

Halls and Galleries
Frequently hosts exhibitions and seminars from people all over the world.
QM Gallery: Nestled in between all the bustle of Katara, the cozy QM gallery promotes emerging local and international artists. The venue hosts artworks that mainly pertain to human themes and is designed as a space to contemplate.

Restaurants and Cafes

Ard Canaan
A unique authentic restaurant serving cuisines from all over the Arab world especially Palestine.

Saffron Lounge
An Indian restaurant that takes your taste buds for a journey with food from all over India. Also has a tea lounge that has tea from all over the world as well as some special items.
Timings: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM

L’wzaar Seafood Market
With an interactive open-kitchen and a 4-meter long seafood display, this restaurant is sure to take your tastebuds for a ride. With over 50 varieties of seafood, all cooked with fresh seafood and to perfection, this place is a must go.

Chac’late
This is the place to go if you want to get the best chocolate and bakery products in the country. All items are locally produced and some are imported from countries like the UK and Switzerland.

  • ATMs are at every nook and cranny, so don’t worry if you’re running out of cash.
  • Public restrooms are well spread over the village and undergo sterilization routinely.
  • Katara is home to the best Art Galleries in the country and has works from all over the world.
  • Mosques are available for prayer.   
  • Make sure you wear decent clothes as Qatar follows Islamic conventions, this means covering shoulders, midriffs, and knees.
