National Museum of Qatar, Doha Overview

Spread over 1.5 km, the National Museum of Qatar gives voice to Qatar’s unique history and its people from the earliest of times to the present day. Designed by award-winning architect, Jean Nouvel, the museum is experiential and immersive organized into three chapters of Qatar. Beginnings, Life in Qatar and the Modern History of Qatar each one presented across 11 separate galleries. There are cafes and gift shops open for getting a bite or a souvenir.

Architecture

The museum was designed by Jean Nouvel, Pritzker Prize winning architect who got his inspiration from the desert rose crystal which is usually found around Qatar. It is made up of interlocking discs that create shade for the visitors to get away from the scorching desert heat. 

Collections

The galleries are arranged in chronological order according to the history of Qatar. Beginning with the desert and Persian Gulf, artefacts from the Bedouin culture, tribal wars, establishment of Qatar, the discovery of oil and lastly modern Qatar. The museum’s mission is to celebrate Qatar’s rich heritage and culture creating a dialogue between Qatar and visitors from all around the world.
