Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Delhi Overview

Situated within the Saket District Centre in New Delhi, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art is the first private museum in India dedicated to contemporary and modern arts. Established in 2010, the museum has a centre in Noida as well. Sprawling over an area of 18000 square feet, the repository mostly has the art collection from the 20th-century painters. However, it also features the young and contemporary talents. The idea of the museum has been inspired from similar depositories in the US- Guggenheim, MoMA, and the Whitney. Initially, Mrs Kiran Nadar started the venture by displaying exhibits in a cafeteria outside her husband’s office, but later the gallery moved to South Court Mall in Saket.

Currently, the museum boasts of an elaborate collection with more 4500 works of arts from painters dating back to the 19th century. The prominent works are from the celebrated Indian artists including M. F. Hussain, Raja Ravi Verma and Anish Kapoor. Other than the painting displays, the museum hosts regular workshops, seminars, symposiums, exotic art exhibitions and public programs.

Besides the several curatorial programmes and special events conducted by the museum to encourage art and promote the confluence of ideas and thoughts, the most prominent programmes hosted by the museum are-
1. There are regular Talks and Symposiums conducted at the museum. The older and the previous talks can also be found on the official website under the archives section.
2. Frequent Workshops are held to encourage the convergence of ideas and creativity among adults and kids.
3. The museum also conducts Film Screenings of movies that are otherwise not screened in the mainstream cinema, which is a wonderful opportunity for all the movie enthusiasts and cinema critics to experience outstanding cinema.
4. The museum also tries and reaches various schools, colleges and different communities to spread awareness about the contemporary and Modern works from the Indian subcontinent.

The nearest metro station to Kiran Nadar Museum of Art is Malviya Nagar Metro, situated on the yellow line. After getting down at the metro, you can hire a shared auto or rickshaw to South Court Mall in Saket. The museum is situated right inside the mall.
