A paradise for wildlife lovers, Kali Tiger Reserve is located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It covers an area of 834.16 sq km and has been recognised as the second largest wildlife sanctuary in the state. Declared as the National Wildlife Sanctuary in 1956, it is home to a variety of flora and fauna including tigers, woodpeckers, hornbills, kingfishers, leopards, elephants, etc. It was renamed from Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary to Kali Tiger Reserve in 2015.
Along with the nearby Anshi National Park, Kali Tiger Reserve houses around 40 tigers. The entire forest area is covered with a mixture of dense deciduous and evergreen vegetation interspersed with bamboo and teak plants. Available in the early morning and during sunset, you can take the jungle safari to explore the wildlife. Fishing, trekking, crocodile sighting and white water rafting in the river Kali that flows through the sanctuary are some of the other adventures you can go for in the jungle.
