Tank Monument, Chandigarh Overview

The Tank Monument in Chandigarh is located near Leisure Valley, quite close to the Government Museum and Art Gallery. A Patton tank (M46), it is a tribute to the Indian Army and stands as a testament to their wars with Pakistan, especially of the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965.

The 1965 War between India and Pakistan saw the latter fighting with superior quality equipment including tanks. This particular Patton tank was captured during the Battle of Asal Uttar as it is said that the Pakistani troops would abandon a tank once it was hit fearing that it would go up in flames. The tank was inaugurated here by Shri Vijay Dev, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh.
