Located in sector 16 of Chandigarh, Rose Garden is a blooming garden which showcases nature at its best. The garden is spread over a massive area of 30 acres and is packed with an exquisite variety of flowers making it quite popular among tourists and nature enthusiasts. It is the largest garden of its kind in Asia and was built in the year 1967 under the guidance of the First Chief Commissioner, MS Randhawa. Named after India's former president Zakir Hussain, the Rose Garden is also known as Zakir Hussain Rose Garden.
Spread across a vast area of over 30 acres, Rose Garden is one of the Asia's largest Rose garden. It has several entrances and a parking facility as well. Designed like a park, this garden is adorned with long stretches of green grass to walk on and several benched places under the tree for relaxing under the shade. Long stretches and curved paths are all over the park for joggers or those exercising. A small lake - like structure is also present in the garden where you can relax and unwind or do a bit of bird watching. You can also find some food stalls installed outside the garden.
Rose Festival is organised every year in the Rose Garden at the end of February and beginning of March. It receives visitors from all over the country in a very large number of over 20,000. Exhibiting the finest of roses, it also offers lots of competitions, cultural events and other celebrations. Stalls, decorations and upbeat music dominate the garden during the festival and it becomes a spectacle in its own. However, the primary attraction here are the endearing roses here which are at their beautiful best during this time.
February to March is the best time to visit Rose Garden as the flowers are in full bloom during this season.
You can easily reach the destination by various modes of transportation. Buses, taxis and autos are available from any part of the city. However, if you are travelling by private vehicle, it might be difficult to get free parking area. The garden can be reached by its various entrances. You can also cycle your way up to the park and plenty of parking for cycles is available as well.
Throw any kind of garbage inside the bins as fines are levied on those littering around or damaging the plants. Als,o make sure to follow all the rules set by the garden authorities.
