Wandoor Beach, Andaman Overview

A small village in the southern part of South Andaman, Wandoor is most recognized for the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, which is among the regions with the richest marine biodiversity. Wandoor Beach is situated at the mesmerizing South Andaman Islands. Two islands named Alexandra Island and Red Skin Island are also close to the beach and if you are adventurous, then take a boat to the islands for a trip.

Things to Do at Wandoor Beach

Enjoy the Beach: The beach, located beside Wandoor village from where it got its name, is one of the best beaches in the whole of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. You can also go for bathing in the sea but make sure there are lifeguards around the area as the sea has massive wave. Kids will have a nice time here making sand castles of the white sand and witnessing the small fishing boats that are always present. If you are not good at swimming, you can book a glass-bottomed boat to see the coral reefs of Wandoor Beach.


Visit the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park: This Park is just a minutes’ walk from Wandoor Beach. It was closed after the 2004 Tsunami, but after reopening it has regained its massive popularity among the revellers. It is a place for breeding sea turtles and restoring corals of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Go for an excursion to the nearby islands: After you visit the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, you can book chartered boats that are available from the Park to the nearby islands. The Jolly Buoy Island and Red Skin Island are the two most popular destinations where the tourists go by boat. The fare for the boat is Rs 750 per head with an additional Rs 50 for forest permit to the Jolly Buoy Island and Rs 25 for the camera.

At the Jolly Buoy and Red Skin Island, you can witness the marine life of your own and watch a variety of corals and colourful fishes. You can also do snorkeling at the Jolly Buoy Island. You should also remember that these two Islands remain open for only a period of 6 months. All the boats return from Jolly Buoy Island to Wandoor by 3 pm.
