Thumpoly Beach, Alleppey Overview

Thumpoly Beach is a hidden gem located in the state of Kerala. This beach is famous for its scenic beauty and cleanliness. Etymology

The name 'Thumpoly' is derived from the word 'Thoma Polly' which translates to 'Church of St. Thomas'. During the Portuguese rule in the area, the place was also called 'Thompolis' which means 'The town of St. Thomas'.

1. The most popular attraction of the place is St. Thomas Church which is a 500-year-old Christian church built by the Portuguese. The church is dedicated to  Blessed Virgin Mary.
2. Another prominent monument in Thumpoly is Thirthassery Temple which reverberates with magnificent Kerala style architecture.
3. You can also visit the nearby fishing villages to have a peek into the lifestyle of the traditional Kerala fisherfolks.

Thumpoly Church Feast

The age-old St. Thomas Church dedicated to Blessed Virgin Mary not only boasts of striking architecture but is known far and wide for its grand Church Feast. Every year, starting on the 8th of December, the church lights up for 11 days for the Immaculate Conception, and a lavish feast is held. The idol of 'Our Lady' in the church is vibrantly done up, which is called 'Kappal Karachi Amma' meaning 'the mother who came by ship.

Best Time To Visit Thumpoly Beach

How To Reach Thumpoly Beach

By Rail: The nearest railway station to reach Thumpoly beach is Alappuzha Railway Station which is located at a distance of 5 km. From the railway station taxis are easily available that will take you to the beach.

By Road: A number of private and public buses also operate from a number of places including Bangalore, Coimbatore, Chennai and Kochi that will drop you off at Alleppey from where Thumpoly Beach is at a distance of around 6 km. This distance can easily be covered by hiring a cab or a taxi.
