Mexico Shoulder Season

Shoulder season in Mexico lasts from September to October in the autumn, and April to May in the spring. During these months, both the temperature and rainfall are very low.. Autumn in Mexico (September to November)

During the autumn months, Mexico has an average temperature of around 20 degrees celsius in the northern parts and about 30 degrees celsius in the southern regions. The coastal waters become significantly cooler during the autumn season. This period also coincides with the peak season due to its favourable weather conditions such as moderate temperature and the retreating autumn rains.
  • The independence day of Mexico falls on 16th September and is a major holiday in the country.
  • Some important festivals to look forward to during this season are Fiestas de Octubre, the Day of the Dead (during 1st and 2nd November), Fiesta de Santa Cecilia (celebrated on 22nd November), and the Morelia International Film Festival.

Mexico in Winter (December to February)

During the winter months in Mexico, the temperature falls to around 20 degrees celsius. The highlands of northern Mexico experiences snowfall during this season. Being located in the temperate zone, Mexico does not witness harsh winters. Instead, the weather conditions (except in the mountains) are quite pleasant and are ideal for planning a vacation.

Mexico in Spring (March to May)

However, parts of Mexico is beautiful during the rainy season as well, especially the Greenlands, and therefore rainy seasons do not put a stop to the influx of tourists into the country. The coastal water is warm during these months, whereas the mountain peaks are still covered with snow.

The main cultural event to watch out for during this season is the Festival de Mexico, which takes place during March. This two-week event is hosted in multiple locations (more than 40 venues) throughout the country, and attract musicians and music lovers from all over the world. Some major holidays such as the Easter holidays also happen during these months. Another important event is the nine-day carnival held in Veracruz and Mazatlan during mid-March.
