Sikkim Travel Essentials

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Sikkim is from March to June and October to December, when the weather is pleasant (10°C to 25°C) and skies are clear for mountain views. Spring (March–May) brings blooming rhododendrons and greenery, while autumn (October–November) offers crisp air and spectacular views of Kanchenjunga. December to February is cold, especially in North Sikkim and higher regions like Lachung and Lachen, but ideal for snow. July to September sees heavy monsoon rain and frequent landslides, making travel less predictable.

Ideal Duration & Popular Itineraries
Sikkim holidays usually last 6 to 9 days, often combining Gangtok, North Sikkim, and South Sikkim. Popular formats include:

  • 6 Days: Gangtok → Lachen → Lachung (Yumthang Valley).
  • 8 Days: Adds Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, and Nathula Pass.
  • 9 Days: Combines Gangtok with Pelling or Ravangla for a complete Sikkim circuit.

Top Things to Do
  • Visit Tsomgo Lake, Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, and Nathula Pass near Gangtok
  • Explore Lachen, Lachung, and Yumthang Valley for snow and alpine scenery
  • Visit Pelling for Kanchenjunga views and Pemayangtse Monastery
  • See Rumtek Monastery and Namgyal Institute of Tibetology in Gangtok
  • Relax at Ravangla and Namchi, known for monasteries and the Buddha Park
  • Visit Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest in the world
  • Try local Sikkimese cuisine, including momos, thukpa, and fermented delicacies
  • Shop for handwoven carpets and prayer flags at MG Marg in Gangtok

Top Destinations Combined with Sikkim
Sikkim packages are often combined with:

  • Darjeeling for tea gardens and Himalayan views
  • Kalimpong for monasteries and scenic viewpoints
  • Gangtok as a central hub for extending to North or South Sikkim
  • Bhutan or Assam for longer northeastern circuits

Why Book a Package for Sikkim
  • Permit assistance: Packages handle the mandatory Inner Line Permits (ILPs) for Nathula Pass, Gurudongmar Lake, and North Sikkim.
  • Transport logistics: Packages include 4x4 or local vehicles essential for remote and hilly areas where shared transport is limited.
  • Stay coordination: Packages pre-book hotels and homestays in regions with limited infrastructure like Lachen or Lachung.
  • Weather-based planning: Packages manage route changes due to snow or landslides, ensuring flexible scheduling.
  • Multi-destination coverage: Packages combine Gangtok, Pelling, and North Sikkim smoothly with efficient routing.
  • Value and convenience: Inclusive transfers, accommodations, and sightseeing ensure safe, cost-effective, and comfortable travel.
