Rietberg Museum, Zurich Overview

One of the largest museums in Zurich, the Rietberg Museum is the only art museum displaying non-European art & design in Switzerland. Situated in Rieterpark, it displays phenomenal artefacts and designs of Oceanian, Asian, African, and American cultures.

There are 27,000 artefacts and 36,000 ethnographic pictures spread over different exhibits. With multiple permanent and temporary exhibitions, the museum houses exhibits like Being Jain, Pathways to Art, Kimono, African miniatures, Chinese Jade and many more.  

Apart from the eye-catching art, the building of the museum designed by Alfred Grazioli and Adolf Krischanitz comprises three elegant villas and one of the most beautiful gardens in the city. Sit back and savour the Swiss flavours in the courtyard cafe of the museum and get some souvenirs from its art shop.

Architecture of Rietberg Museum

The Rietberg Park includes three 19 th century historic buildings of Wesendonck Villa, Rieter Park-Villa and Schönberg Villa and is located near the Zurich Enge railway station. Due to the threats Schönberg Villa had received about demolition it was later opened in 1978 as an extension to the existing museum. Today when you visit the place it also has a glass pavilion opened in 2007, an underground extension wing created by designers Grazioli and Krischanitz.
