Riffelalp, Zermatt Overview
Riffelalp is a gorgeous hamlet in Zermatt that is home to the beautiful Alps, great peaks like the Matterhorn, glaciers, and a luxury alpine resort like no other. Riffelalp is a famous joint for skiers to share a few drinks, relax and walk beside the view of the Matterhorn, lined by Swiss stone and larches.
The town hosts the highest tram in all of Europe, an antique train that has been functioning since 1899 and carries visitors to the Riffelalp resort. Inaugurated in 1884, Riffelalp resort is now a 5-star luxury hotel that oozes opulence and comfort. It is nestled perfectly amid the peaks and pines of the beautiful alpine offering a wonderful view of the Matterhorn. No wonder Mark Twain found inspiration for ‘Climbing the Riffelberg’ here.
