Cheetah's Rock, Zanzibar Overview
Cheetah's Rock is a privately run animal centre on Zanzibar's west coast, home to cheetahs, lions, leopards, zebras, otters and birds, many of which the centre describes as rescues. Tours are small, pre-booked well in advance and expensive. Note that the visit is built around close hands-on contact with the animals, big cats included, and direct physical contact with captive big cats is widely considered unethical by animal welfare organisations. The centre aims to provide a safe space for animals and raise awareness about wildlife conservation. You can choose the "Big Wildlife Tour" to meet a cheetah, feed zebras, create obstacle courses for monkeys, and observe hyenas, lemurs, and Suni antelopes. Alternatively, the "VIP Otter Experience" lets you swim and interact with otters for a unique and exciting encounter.
Must Know Before You Visit Cheetah's Rock
Complimentary Transportation : Cheetah's Rock provides free roundtrip transportation from locations such as Stone Town, Nungwi, Kiwengwa, Kendwa, Matemwe, Uroa, and more. If you're situated in areas farther away, like the Southeast Coast, you can still enjoy the convenience of round-trip transport for a $20 surcharge per car (not per person).
Tips for Your Visit to Cheetah's Rock :
- No Strong Smells: Please don't wear insect repellent, sun tan lotion, aftershaves, or perfumes to keep our animals safe.
- Stay Clean: Before entering any area, your hands and shoes will be disinfected as a precaution for the animals' health.
- Capture the Moments: Bring your camera to take awesome pictures during the tour.
- Dress for Great Wildlife Tour: Wear comfortable shoes like trainers or boots, and opt for shorts or jeans. Avoid loose clothing like dresses or scarves, and leave jewellery behind to keep the animals safe.
- Dress for VIP Otter Experience: Bring a plain swimsuit and a towel for the VIP Otter Experience.

- Great Wildlife Tour: The Great Wildlife Tour lasts 4 hours and lets you see rare animals up close. You can watch cheetahs, lions, lemurs, and zebras and take pictures. The tour also helps with wildlife conservation.
Timing: 02:00 PM to 06:45 PM - Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday. - VIP Otter Experience: The VIP Otter Experience allows participants to interact with rescued otters in a pond, contributing to the conservation work conducted by the otter crew. The encounter is designed to be both enjoyable and supportive of their essential efforts. Visits play a crucial role in assisting their work.
Timing: 09:30 AM to 11:30 AM - Combined Tour: The Combined Tour starts at 9:30 am. First, you'll enjoy the VIP Otter Experience with the cute otters. Take a lunch break (not included) at a nearby fancy hotel. Then, continue with the Great Wildlife Tour for more otter fun and wildlife encounters.
