While the summers are the on season period around the rest of New Zealand, it is the winter season (June - August) that is the best time to visit Wanaka. The cold temperatures mean that the entire city is out and about on the ski slopes and make great conditions for soft snow. With six snow parks  and ski resorts open and in full gear and in the middle of the snow season, these are the prime tourist months in Wanaka. Summertime in Wanaka is also an ideal time to visit the beaches, and conditions for activities such as kayaking or canoeing through the lakes.
