Road Condition
The Jaisalmer Phalsund Road is in good condition and driving is not so much of a challenge. The highway road nestles between rocky mountain, and it is a small winding road to Ranakpur. From Barmer, the terrain is excellent and one cam gear up to 150 kmph. The Barmer Road is NH15 is in excellent condition. In the second route, which goes via Jodhpur, the road till Pali is not that good, but from Pali to Jodhpur, the road condition is good for the drivers. Till Pokhran again, the roads are great, passing through beautiful landscapes.

2. Jaisalmer to Udaipur by Bus

Another good alternative for travelling by road from Jaisalmer to Udaipur is taking buses. There are numerous Rajasthan State Transport Corporation (RSTC) Government buses as well privately operated buses for you to choose from. Buses are less preferred over cabs and taxis because they take 12-13 hours, which is more than cabs. Also, cabs are much more comfortable, and you can make stopovers whenever you want. The prospective travellers must, however, note that RSTC does not operate many buses between the two cities, so options are limited.

The buses take the Jodhpur route and cover a distance of about 528 kms. You can book the bus tickets from popular bus ticket booking sites such as Red Bus and also on the RSTC's official website. The journey is a long one, so you should choose a comfortable, AC seater or sleeper to get through the usually hot weather conditions. If you wish to stay overnight at Jodhpur in between, then you can take a bus to Jodhpur, and then take a bus from Jodhpur to Udaipur the other day.

Apart from RSRTC, the popular bus operators serving this route are Hanuman Travels, Hai Bajrang Travel Agency, Sodha Travels, Swagat Travels and Thar Travels. A comfortable option is to take an overnight bus so that you have the whole day saved to yourself for local sightseeing in Udaipur. City Palace, Bagore ki Haveli etc. close by evening, so you must reach by morning if you want to cover this on the same day.
