Sangiran , Surakarta Overview

An amazing place full of excitement and exploration, situated 15 kilometres to the North of a city called Solo in central province Java Indonesia near Gemoro river bank. It is also known as early man site because of excavation from 1936-1941 led to discovery of hominid fossil remains from the site which are believed to be more than 2 million years old! Approximately more than 50 fossils of Meganthropus palaeo and pithecanthropus erectus/Homo erectus have been found in the same place, and it is still counting. This site is now hold a key spot for understanding "The Human Evolution".

The area is spread over a large acre and the significance of this area is its geology because a dome was created many years ago believed to be due to tectonic uplifts.  But, now the property displays very old remains of humanoid fossils, animal fossil and cultural evolution changes with respect to environmental context.

This property due to its very important discoveries in the past has been declared as National Protected Cultural site by UNESCO. It now acts as a museum which is informative, clean and organised. The museum can be enjoyed by both adults and children. The ticket of entry come at an affordable price and is a must visit place to learn about human evolution.
