Sighnaghi

Sighnaghi, also called Signagi or Sighnagi, is a picturesque town in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia. It is often referred to as the "City of Love'' due to its romantic ambiance and stunning panoramic views of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains. Renowned for its vineyards and wine production, Sighnaghi is located approximately 112 kilometers (70 miles) east of Georgia's capital city, Tbilisi.

The city has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. It was a significant trading and cultural center during the reign of King Heraclius II of Georgia. The town's defensive walls, built in the 18th century, are well-preserved and surround the town. Sighnaghi, with its well-preserved city walls, offers a glimpse into the past and provides stunning panoramic views of the Alazani Valley.

Sighnagi and its environs are home to several historical and cultural monuments and have been specifically protected by the State since 1975. The town is encircled by the remnants of 18th-century fortifications. Signagi boasts two charming Georgian Orthodox churches within its confines - one dedicated to the revered St. George and the other to the beloved St. Stephen. A mere 2 kilometers away, the cherished Bodbe Monastery beckons travelers on a spiritual journey, closely tied to the legacy of St. Nino, the apostle of Georgia from the 4th century.
