Day Trip to Kuroshima Island, Sasebo Overview
A 50-minute ferry to an island where most of the few hundred residents are Catholic, descended from families who kept their faith hidden for two centuries. The 1902 brick church is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the reason to make the crossing, but it takes an advance reservation through the Nagasaki church information centre. Arriving at the door without one does not get you inside.
