Echo Lake, San Francisco Overview

The glacier lake is situated in El Dorado County, California. Famous for its crystal clear blue waters in summer, the lake has two branches- the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake. In 1968, the lake was used as a training facility for the Olympic summer games.

Closer to Lake Tahoe Area, the lake doesn’t fail to impress with its recreational activities and facilities such as hiking trails, kayaking, fishing, and cross-country skiing. The Echo Lakes hike follows the Pacific Crest Trail along the lakes’ northern edge and hiking enthusiasts can hike deeper into Desolation Wilderness using the water-taxi option. The Echo Chalet is equipped with vault toilets and a store. Dogs on leashes are allowed on the trails.
