Freedom Park, Pretoria Overview

Freedom Park is a monument and historical landmark that spans 56 acres on Salvokop in Pretoria. A memorial called Isivivane, a symbolic resting place for all who lost their lives in the struggle for independence is located within the park.

It is considered one of the most ambitious heritage projects undertaken by the South African government. Freedom Park includes a symbolic burial ground surrounded by eleven boulders known as Lesaka, bodies of water at the entrance and exit for baptism and drinking and Umlahlankosi trees. The Park also has a Wall of Names, an amphitheatre, an eternal flame, a gallery of leaders, a sanctuary and Pan African archives. It is the perfect location to imbibe history and learn about South Africa while also enjoying nature.
