Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi Overview
The Karen Blixen Museum, about 10 km from downtown Nairobi, was the farmhouse home of Danish author Karen Blixen, whose memoir inspired the film Out of Africa. Opened in 1985, it preserves her original furniture and farm buildings, with the Ngong Hills visible from the grounds exactly as she described them. Worth visiting for the film connection as much as the colonial-era history.
The Karen Blixen Museum gained fame after the movie "Out of Africa" was released, which was based on Blixen's life. Visitors usually take a tour of her cozy house, including her dining room with her own furniture. The museum is surrounded by large gardens with beautiful views of the Ngong Hills.
