The Great Himalayan National Park, Manali Overview
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014, Great Himalayan National Park spans the Kullu region and is home to more than 375 faunal species, including 31 mammals and 181 birds, among them the snow leopard and Himalayan brown bear. It became a national park in 1999. At 65 km from Manali it's a full day's trip, better suited to serious wildlife and trekking interest than a casual stop.
Yet, it manages to be a quiet and good break from the crowded places in the town. It is home to around 400 species of fauna, and the paths here are ideal for a quiet and peaceful trek. Camping inside the park is also equally enjoyable.
