History of World Peace Pagoda

There are many Peace Pagodas built in various locations across the world. The one in Lumbini was made in November 2001. The stupas or the Pagodas were established to instil peace and promote harmony in humans, especially after World War II. When innocent lives were taken and many more suffered, there was an urgent need to eradicate differences. Back in 1931, a Buddhist monk from Japan and the founder of Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Order, Nichidatsu Fujii, happened to meet Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji's ideologies so inspired him that he immediately began promoting peace and non-violence on a larger scale. He has provided all the necessary guidance to build several Peace Pagodas for this reason since 1947.
