The Sultanate of Johor was established in Kota Tinggi. Several mosques and tombs were built during Johor’s Sultanate which still stand in the district of Kota Tinggi. The famous Makam Sultan Mahmud Mangkat Diljulang historical tomb is also located here. The legendary Johor-Jambi War was fought around this area.
