Knysna Heads, Knysna Overview

The Knysna Heads are a pair of sandstone cliffs that separate the Knysna Lagoon from the rest of the Indian Ocean. It is the most famous landmark along the Garden Route and is divided into the Eastern and Western Head. It is known for its breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, Knysna Lagoon and the Outeniqua Mountains.

The Eastern Head is accessible by car and offers easy access to beaches, rock pools and viewpoints. There are luxury resorts and quaint cafes and restaurants available. They usually have indoor and outdoor seating so that you can enjoy the stunning view from the cliff head. Snorkelling, canoeing, kayaking and kiteboarding are popular activities here. The Western Head is accessible only by ferry from the Knysna waterfront. It is worth visiting the Featherbed Nature Reserve, known for its rich wildlife, nature trails and gorgeous viewpoints.
