Knysna Lagoon is located between the Knysna Heads on the Golden Route. As it is sheltered from the rough seas by the Knysna Heads, it is a very popular location for boating and water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, kitesurfing and water skiing.
The area is also rich with marine life with plenty of mullet, leer fish, skate, grunter, elf and white steenbras. Dolphins can be spotted here year-round, and humpback and southern rights whales can be spotted between July and December. The area is ideal for bird spotting with sandpipers, black oystercatcher, stilts, the malachite, herons and pied kingfishers.
