Kashmir Travel Essentials

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Kashmir is from April to October, when the valley comes alive with blossoms, greenery, and clear skies. Spring (April–May) sees tulips and apple orchards in bloom, while summer (June–August) offers houseboat stays, shikara rides, and meadows at their best. September–October brings autumn foliage across Chinar trees. November to March is winter, with snow in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam, making it ideal for skiing and snow activities, though temperatures drop below freezing.

Ideal Duration & Popular Itineraries
Kashmir holidays usually range from 5 to 8 days, covering Srinagar with nearby valleys and hill stations. Popular formats include:
  • 5 Days: Srinagar houseboat stay, Mughal Gardens, Dal Lake, plus day trips to Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
  • 6 Days: Adds Sonamarg for meadows and glaciers, or a leisure day in Srinagar.
  • 7–8 Days: Full circuit of Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg, with time for local markets and Wazwan cuisine.

Top Things to Do
  • Stay in a houseboat on Dal Lake and enjoy shikara rides
  • Visit Mughal Gardens (Shalimar, Nishat, Chashme Shahi) and Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar
  • Take the Gulmarg Gondola and try skiing or snowboarding in winter
  • Walk through meadows of Sonamarg and trek to Thajiwas Glacier
  • Explore Pahalgam with Aru and Betaab Valley, Lidder River, and pony rides
  • Shop for saffron, dry fruits, Kashmiri carpets, and Pashmina shawls
  • Relish Kashmiri Wazwan meals, kahwa, and traditional bakery treats

Top Destinations Combined with Kashmir
Kashmir packages are often combined with:
  • Vaishno Devi (Katra) for pilgrimage
  • Leh–Ladakh via road or flight for high-altitude landscapes
  • Amritsar for the Golden Temple and Wagah Border, as part of a North India circuit

Why Book a Package for Kashmir
  • Houseboat and hotel bookings: Prime stays on Dal Lake and resorts in Gulmarg/Pahalgam fill up quickly in peak season.
  • Transport included: Local taxis are expensive; packages bundle sightseeing and intercity transfers at better value.
  • Weather flexibility: Packages provide on-ground assistance if snowfall or curfews affect travel.
  • All-in-one experience: Packages cover shikara rides, gondola tickets, and pony trips in advance.
  • Seamless circuits: Packages plan Srinagar with Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg efficiently, saving time.
