Zoo Lake, Johannesburg Overview

Johannesburg Zoo Lake is a beautiful lake and public park that is part of the Hermann Eckstein Park opposite the Johannesburg Zoo. There is a 1.2km long walking path around the lake. It is also an excellent place for picnics, boating and canoeing. The famous Coronation Fountain built in honour of King George VI’s coronation is located here.

At the centre of the Johannesburg Zoo Lake is a small island with ducks, geese, fowls and more, though feeding them is usually discouraged. The Zoo Lake is also known for its swimming pool which is also used for water polo, Sports Club for cricket and football, and Bowls Club for croquet. There is also an archery club on the premises. Children can have fun in the play area. It has two restaurants, Moyo and Panettone Café, which serve food, drinks, and plays live music.
