Jang-e-Azadi Memorial, Jalandhar Overview

Jang-e-Azadi is located at Kartarpur, Punjab in the Amritsar-Jalandhar Highway. It is a recently developed museum and is one of the mega projects in the state which is spread over 25 acres of land. It is a memorial for all the Punjabis who sacrificed their lives during the Indian Independence. It also gives a detailed picture of the culture of Punjabis and India.

The architecture of the memorial is astounding with various amenities and artistries integrated along with it. The architecture of all the buildings are doom-shaped and is spread in a circular shape which is more exceptionally catchy. There is also a 15- minute 3D movie and a laser show using water curtain projection techniques, which is a picture of India’s struggle for freedom.

The Government approved his proposed design which had separate galleries for various themes and also a tower called Shaheed-e-Minar which is 45 metres high. All the galleries in the memorial have massive domes which are shaped to look like flowers.

Modernising the design, there was a plan for a 1000-seat open-air theatre,150-seat movie hall, 300-seat auditorium, amphitheatre, library and seminar halls as individual units in a different building within the memorial. There are railings which connect the various galleries and buildings. Also, there are sitting areas in the widely spread greenery around the monument.

Within the galleries, there are models which depict various scenarios from history. Also, historical information and details are displayed on boards to give an elaborate view of the picture. The overall structure and objective of the building, which widely exhibited the rich culture of Punjabis are utterly extraordinary.

A model of the memorial's architecture is placed within a small chamber to give the visitors a broader look of the building. Even the venue for building the monument was chosen with much attention to make sure that it was easy for the visitors to reach. Many intellectuals and journalists contributed their ideas for coming up with concepts for the memorial. There is also a vast 5-acre car parking closer to the monument which is currently under construction. It is to be noted that mobile phones must not be used inside the memorial and photography is strictly prohibited.
